Tuesday, January 13th

Today the team (Gayle, Alex, Melissa and Grace) went to Selian Hospital for a busy day of surgeries. Kellen was able to visit 4 hospice patients and give them food they desperately needed. Thank you so much to our generous donors who allow us to support these struggling families and pay for the medical care for our patients.

Grace expressed that today was very fulfilling as she saw and treat patients from the outreach clinic all day. Grace was very appreciative to watch the process from outreach clinic, follow up at the hospital and finally to completed surgeries. Grace learned a lot today as she was able to scrub into a surgery for a man who was unable to bend his knee but now has full range of motion. Graces favorite surgery of the day was when she scrubbed into a surgery to repair a femur of an 8 year old. Grace was very sad to say goodbye to the hospital staff but was very grateful for their support.

Melissa was able to scrub into 2 osteotomies and for repair of a humerus fracture. Melissa’s favorite moment of the day was a surgery for the removal of a thyroid the size of a hand. Melissa was amazed to watch the surgeons and was very grateful for the learning experience.

Kellen was able to visit hospice patients today and visit the homes of many patients who need bedside care. Kellen experienced a few moments of culture shock when he visited the homes of the families due to the severe level of poverty these families live in. He was very happy to be able to deliver food to families who desperately need it and loved to see the smile in their faces when we visited. Kellen was especially saddened to see a case of a 30 year old beautiful woman who became paralyzed when she was 15 years old. It was

amazing to see that despite her condition she was still smiling and full of life.

Dr. Alex expressed he was impressed to see the empathy that Grace shows to the patients. He noticed on multiple occasions that most of the patients and especially the patients formed a personal connection with her and did not want to leave her side.

Mama Gayle expressed she was so excited to see the patients from the outreach clinic and said it was so heartwarming to see the patients after the surgeries so thankful they were able to receive their completed treatment. Once again, this work could not be done without the support of our amazing donors and team.
