Jambo, everyone!
Today we went to Feather’s Tail Orphanage that cares for special needs children. There is a new doctor that has started working there, so he was with us as we traveled around seeing patients. Upon our arrival, we were provided a tour of the campus, and were closely followed by a few rescue dogs that loved the new company.

After Feather’s Tail, we went to Angel’s Gate Boys Home, where we got to meet and interact with boys aging from 10-16 years old. A group highlight was getting to witness the boys’ dance and show us their musical talent. The afternoon turned into a group dance party, with many of us getting put on the spot to show our best moves; after Michael’s excellent moment in the spotlight, a young boy approached him with, “I’m just happy that you tried.”

At the end of the night over a delicious dinner, we reflected on the day and discussed what impacted us most:
Michael was very impressed with the care provided and how generous and selfless the caregivers were; he was most impacted by the deeply moving stories of the patients’ and their lives before being taken in by Feather’s Tail.
Drew was most impacted by the different types of care offered—doctors, nurses, PA’s, nutritionists, and even an OT.
Maggie was most impacted by Gayle’s advocacy for each patient, namely the first patient we saw in the critical care room. Maggie resonated with how Gayle was persistent in ensuring the best care for the patient we just met, even hours after stabilizing the patient’s oxygen levels.
Karly was most impacted by how much joy each patient possesses, regardless of their condition—physical or mental—each person at Feather’s Tail Orphanage remains so joyful.
Foster was most impacted by a special “re-visit” to a patient who she was able to see last time she was here (2023). She was moved by the continuity of care that Hope Ministries provides, and was impressed with the commitment to every patient by our care providers.
Gayle was most impacted by the changes in our itinerary, which turned out to be a blessing. In true fashion, she wishes she could do more, but is very grateful for how our day did not go according to our plan, but God’s plan.
I was most impacted by the compassion and selflessness of all the caregivers and staff at Feather’s Tail. Care for the special needs requires an immense amount of patience, compassion, and grace; each of these characteristics were represented two-fold by the caregivers.
