June 27th

Hi everyone!

Today was our last day in Mwanza

This morning, Gayle and Dr. Johnson stopped back into Bugando Hospital to check in on the post-op patients, and everyone was doing great! They met with the physicians they had been working with this week to share ideas on how we can improve our trip for next time, and they felt as though they came up with great solutions. Gayle and Dr. Johnson also noted that everyone at Bugando seemed very grateful for our group’s time and efforts this week.

Matt was excited because he got to meet the neurology student that he is sponsoring.  This student is so grateful for this opportunity, and the neurology department needs more surgeons.  Such a great program,  This doctor will help many patients over the years.

The rest of the group got to get a little extra shut eye before heading back to Arusha. We were all extremely thankful for Precision Airlines’ punctual flight today. It’s hard to believe we are almost to the end of our trip. We had the first of our goodbyes, leaving Drew behind at the airport for his flight out today. Back in Arusha, the rest of the group was able to shop for some Tanzanite at a nearby jeweler—Maggie, Karly, and Foster all found something special! Before heading back to the hotel, we stopped for some barbecue pork which was delicious and a group favorite. Back at the hotel, we all had some down time to relax and recover from a great week at Bugando before eating our last dinner together (7 Apple Crisps with ice cream). We’re not ready to say any more goodbyes yet!
