“Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.”
(Matthew 25:40, 45)
Below is an impactful story from one of our Hope Ministries Volunteers:
One of the most touching patient stories for me was during a family, hospice care visit. After a bad tree accident, the father of the family was paralyzed from the waist down and had not been able to support his family for the last year. The mother of this family was only 22, which hit home for me as a 21 year old. They had three kids under the age of six, all of whom hadn’t eaten in over 24 hours when our team arrived. The mother took on the role as the main provider which caused a lot of stress on her marriage, her family and her community. While at home the father of this family was unable to move and with poor sanitary conditions the hospice team found him lying on a moldy bed filled with maggots and life-threatening bed sores; he was quickly admitted to the hospital. They had no funds for this hospital stay, but Hope Ministries stepped in and not only paid for his medical care, but also bought him a new mattress with a cover. He was able to return home for a limited amount of time before being admitted again with terrible bed sores. He currently is unable to leave the hospital until the family is able to pay all of his large medical bills. However, every day that he stays longer the hospital bill only increases. You could tangibly feel the heaviness amidst their tiny home, and yet, at the same time, you could also feel their strong faith in God. As we prayed over her and her children, the mother started sobbing uncontrollably and loudly proclaimed all glory to God. We were all in tears by the end of our visit.
The Hospice and Hope Ministries teams collaborated on a long term plan to help this family in need. Hospice agreed to make frequent visits to assess for any further signs of infection and Hope Ministries agreed to provide food to feed the family monthly. Hope Ministries also provided funds for the mother to build and furnish a vegetable stand, so she can make an income to help her family. Please, please pray for this family, their overall well-being and for their finances. If you feel led, you can donate through:
